Mohill Sustainable Energy Community to create a Better Energy Community

The aim of this community is to deliver a pilot scale Better Energy Community (BEC) project in County Leitrim; one in Mannorhamilton and 4 in Mohill.

Mohill Sustainable Energy Community forms part of a collaboration including HSE Estates North West acting as a lead applicant working with North Leitrim Sustainable Energy Community (NLSEC) and Mohill Community Development Association (Mohill SEC). Leitrim County Council is also a project partner in SECURE.

This Pilot Project included One in Mannorhamilton (Arus Breffni) and 4 in Mohill Including HSE Nursing home; Arus Carolan, Mohill Enterprise Centre, Mohill Family Support Centre and Eivers Lane childcare facility.

Mohill Community Upgrades:

Mohill Family Resource Centre - Lighting upgrade:

·   Replaced fluorescent and stand lights with high efficiency LED’s.

·   Fitted occupancy sensors in toilet and circulation areas.

·   Installed circulation fans in the main hall to reduce heating loss due to high ceilings.

·   Annual saving = €1,000

Mohill Enterprise Centre – Lighting and Insulation upgrade:

·   Replaced fluorescent and stand lights with high efficiency LED’s.

·   Cavity walls were pumped with insulation.

·   Additional ceiling insulation was also added.

·   Annual Savings = €2,400

Eivers Lane – Lighting upgrade:

·   Replaced fluorescent and stand lights with high efficiency LED’s.

·   Fitted occupancy sensors in toilet and circulation areas.

·   Annual saving = €800

Project Summary:

·   5 health and community facilities upgraded

·   €212k investment

·   €68k grant (32% of total)

Annual Impacts:

·   265 MWH energy savings

·   82 tonnes of Co2 avoided

·   €20k retained in the local economy
